Triocraft Ethiopia

trio5.jpgTriocraft has been successfully producing and selling (both locally and abroad) its broad array of handicrafts and apparel in Ethiopia for over 3 years now.  Three years may not be a long time but with the experience of two decades of design and production under her belt, Wzo. Elizabeth has been able to establish Triocraft as one of the premier handicraft manufacturers in Ethiopia in this short timeframe.

Good Deeds and Good Business

Triocrafts strengths with its customers may lie in the variety of products they offer and the quality with which they are made but behind the scenes is a wonderful story of how Elizabeth and her sister Aster not only produce great products but also make enormous contributions to the well being of their community.  It is perhaps to be expected from a company that interprets its namesake to represent the three corners of its foundation - Elizabeth, her sister Aster and God.

trio1.jpgElizabeth first started Triocraft as a way to help Kenyan women in her neighborhood by teaching them weaving and other related skills so they could make a living for themselves.  Before long, she found herself helping more and more women and with the purchase of some equipment to suppor these efforts, she expanded both the scope and sophistication of her efforts.  Furthermore, Elizabeth proved a willing teacher to Kenyan women who wanted to open similar businesses and soon there were several such firms operated by women she herself had trained.  Now when you hear of a business person speaking with pride about the competition to her business that she helped train herself, you know that it's definitely not all about dollars and cents for her.

Today, Elizabeth still does most of her recruiting amongst women of low income and conducts intensive craft skill training sessions to develop existing skills for crafts works from her recruits and give them a chance at a better life for themselves.  The most promising recruits are sent off to formal training for 8-10 months and throughout this time, Triocraft provides them with tuition expenses, transportation and pocket money to ensure they have the best chance of completing their training.
